As a parent, one feels the obligation to care for his/her child, even as a bear would care for her cubs. A parent feels that this is her/his responsibility, along with the spouse's help. When someone else chastises the child, the parent feels that his/her responsibility has been taken from under him/her, and that someone else feels they can do a better job than he/she has done.
