I know the answer: Guaifenesin! It's an expectorant in cough and cold medicine, like Mucinex and Dayquil (Nyquil does not have it). Guaifenesin also has a tendency to make your urine smell funny, but that's perfectly normal and will go away once it leaves your system. I've taken medicine with the stuff before, so I know this through experience.

Well, honey, that's because cold medicines contain ingredients that can affect the smell of your urine. Specifically, some medications like decongestants or antibiotics can give your pee a strong chemical odor. It's nothing to worry about unless you're experiencing other concerning symptoms, then it's best to talk to your doctor.

Mine too ! I smell like the medicine for a few days after taking dayquil and nyquil, like my private area and urine. It's so strange. Looking for an answer myself.

Your liver filters out the toxins or harmful chemicals from the medicine and your body disposes of them in your urine.
