because there are pigments in your hair that contain melanin, which gives your hair its color. Overtime, these pigments die off, and there are only few pigments to make melanin. When your hair runs out melanin is doesn't make any color. Therefore, itstead of a color, your hair becomes a transparent color such has gray, silver, or white.
