Little sparks of light are caused by a part in the eye called the retina. Sometimes, particles of the retina detatch, pulling on its source, causing sparks of light in the eye. This is actually quite a normal thing, but if any large spots, or particularly a large floater that looks like a spider comes across your eye, it may be a sign that the retina tore a considerable amount, and that needs to be checked right away because it is possible, if not checked, that a loss of vision can occur.
