Some teens get depressed when something dramatic comes up or when there is a problem.

the above answer is kinda right AND wrong tbh. Teens can get just as depressed as adults can, for the same reasons. You can be born with a dispossition, or could have been hereditry. but either way it is a mental illness that doesnt always come from one particular event, YES teens can have depression.

Many teenagers suffer from depression because of the many things they have to deal with at that age. Not only do they feel pressure to do well in school and study hard from people such as teachers and parents, but also have relationships, puberty and friendships to deal with. They may also worry that their problems will be spread around as "gossip" which can be very emotionally straining. Try to imagine a celebrity's problems being "exposed" to the public. This is very hard for teenagers to deal with. On top of all this they must think about their future and what they want to do for the rest of their life. This can cause great stress and often this stress can get on top of them and lead to depression. Sometimes this can lead to suicidal thoughts and can be very difficult to deal with. If you or anyone you know is in this position it is important to seek professional help. Tell an adult you trust and they may be able to arrange this for you. Sometimes just talking about your problem can help you learn how to deal with it by yourself. You should try to learn to focus on the good things in life such as the people you love and wipe out the bad things that are causing the depression. Its very tough to learn and can take some time but in the end should be worth it. Try to remember that how you feel is up to you. If you think you are depressed and feel down then you will be. If you think you are happy and have many good things to look forward to in life then you will be happy.there is many othere reason people suffer from depression sometimes they have to deal with family and people have worse depression because others r trying to get them to talk to people but it isn't always the best thing because the people may not want help and it would just maake it worse.

Social status is one of the contributing factor in teenagers. Teenagers face the need to fit in school and being rejected by groups of their piers. Bullying is also a huge cause of depression in teenagers cause it gives them the feeling of weakness. Also relationships whether it be a friendship or a romantic one. Teenagers do not have the emotional capacity to handle such things.

The teenage years are a very difficult time. Bodies and mind-states are changing, as well as social scenes and friendships, obligations and responsibilities and the importance of certain things. Teenagers can be under a lot of pressure, as well as the fact that their hormones are going crazy so this leaves them vulnerable to depression,

The high rate of depression found amongst teenagers can be explained by considering various factors of adolescent development. For example, during adolescents the individual becomes ego-centric, thinking of themselves as the center of reality. This presents in what is termed the "imaginary audience", the belief that one is constantly being watched and judged. This belief results in the amplification all failures. Another way ego-centricism plays a role in teenage depression found in the concept of the "personal fable"; teenagers believe that their experiences are entirely unique to them which lends itself to a feeling of emotional isolation. These factors all decrease an adolescents ability to deal with an already difficult stage; according to Erik Erikson, teenagers are met with the issue of identity vs. role confusion, and it is at this point in their life that the individual must establish an identity. The complexity and significance of such a dilemma is made difficult by the ego-centricism that effects adolescents, and often leads to depression in teenagers.

Teenagers tend to be more depressed than they were as kids because of the huge influx of hormones during the teen years. Teens are also exposed to a large amount of pressure at this time in their lives.
