Sometimes a prosthetic leg is not the only medical issue a person is dealing with. Also, it takes some time to get used to a prosthesis, and often the initial prosthesis will cause some degree of pain to the stump until the proper fit can be determined. Some people might find that while they can get by with the prosthesis in most situations, a wheelchair might still be preferable for whatever reason. There are different sets of difficulties depending on whether the amputation was above or below the knee, and whether or not the person is learning to use prostheses on one or both legs.
