If the appendix gets blocked by a bit of faecal matter (poo) then it can get inflammed and infected. It can then really easily burst into your abdominal cavity and get infected. That infection can then get into your blood, causing it to become infected. You can potentially die from it.

Millions of people have had their appendix removed, so they don't actually need it.

However, it's believed to have some functions; it used to be thought that the appendix was entirely vestigial - a shrunken form of the "extra" stomach used by ruminants to digest cellulose. However, nowadays, it's thought that the appendix helps immunity and maintain the stomach flora; there is some evidence of increased infection amongst people who've had their appendix removed.

Appendix is vestigial organ. That means it is useless organ in human being. You can safely and easily remove the same. Acute appendicitis is very painful condition. Secondly it can kill you if not treated properly.
