l. Its A Life Style That Many People Take Up For Different Reasons, Like Maybe A family Member Was An Alcoholic. Maybe Someone Died Of Drug Abuse Or Due To A Drunk Driver. Maybe Someone Died Of Lung Cancer From Smoking. Their Are Many Reasons;

Actually, this is rarely the case. While there are certainly people who become straight-edge for this reason, most declare straight-edge in opposition to drug and alcohol related culture. As a former straight-edge individual, I can attest to this. I wanted to live clean and free of harmful substances. I also did this in defiance of the foolish drunken and drug-addled aspects of society. Violence, crime, failed parenting, disease, and death are the legacy of consuming these types of substances.

Most straight-edge people are young and fairly idealistic. They know this and carry this mindset with a certain amount of pride. When I was straight-edge, I was known as being rather brash, outspoken, and idealistic. This was fine with me as I saw most others as complacent, apathetic, and lazy in their convictions and beliefs. I was happy to play the counter-balance to that.

A ruler has markings, a straight edge does not. In "straight edge and compass" constructions, you are not allowed to mark the straight edge.
