Young children need the nutrition from food to aide their development (both physical and mental). This is particularly evident in teenagers who are going through puberty, and whos diet 'intake' may increase correspondingly because of a need for nutrition (often taken from food)

Yes! Children definitely need more calories than adults. But HEALTHY calories, this doesn't mean they can eat the entire cookie jar.
