This is true, and there's an article about this subject in the Related Links section underneath.

Overall, the Latino/Hispanic population live 2.5 years longer than whites and 7.7 years longer than blacks according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

It is a true mystery, even to professionals that expertise health in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In a report they conclude that Hispanics have many problems such as:

  1. High poverty rate.
  2. High obesity rate.
  3. Overall less education.
  4. Less access to Health Care.

....yet, they somehow manage to outlive other ethnic groups.

Professionals say that mortality rates are associated with income, education, and health care access, but for some mysterious reason these basic principles do not apply to the Hispanic population. Professionals say that with Hispanic's low incomes, low education, and poor health care access, they would expect them to have a high mortality rate, but they have the lowest mortality rate on Earth.

Experts say that Immigration does not play a role on their low mortality rate. This was a suspected theory but it was dismissed because other immigrant ethnic races didn't have low mortality rates like Hispanics do.

Experts are pointing towards the possibility that culture is the key and secret to their extended life expectancy. This has nothing to do with the "healthy immigrant effect", because it clearly doesn't apply to other immigrants, so it must have to do something that they do that other cultures do not.

This subject isn't anything new in the health world, professionals have been aware of their high life expectancy for decades, but for the first time the government has gathered enough evidence in 2010.

How many Hispanics live in Jacksonville?

- In 2008, Jacksonville (city limits) had approx. 51,000 Hispanics, BUT the region had nearly 90,000 Hispanics. - So keeping the growth pattern I PREDICT that there are currently about 95,000 (less than 10% of the area population) Hispanics in the area. - But by 2020 it would be fair to say that there would be about 200,000 Hispanics due to the great quality of life, jobs, and a great area! NOTE: Census estimates (2009) show that more than 100,000 Hispanics live in Clay, Duval, Putnam, Flagler, Nassau and St. Johns counties.
