Standards are set to ensure everyone is treated in an equal way. How we care for ourselves might be different to the way another person cares for themselves. For example, one person might choose not to make their bed until they get back into it, if they were feeling lazy. But, where Care Standards are set, it would be expected that the bed would be remade before leaving the bedroom. Obviously, there is more to it, than just making a bed, and that was only an example. On a more personal level, it is also expected that Staff are clean, tidy and fit for work. The use of gloves and aprons is appropriate to avoid the spread of bacteria, etc., and this is another of the Standards of Expectation. The fluid balance charts are completed, the weights are measured and all things are documented correctly. Ensuring the person being cared for receives Water, Food, Personal Care, Social Care, Medical Care, and their Needs are met. To most people, these Standards are exactly what they would require for themselves.
