It's just when men were only allowed on the throne (except for Queen E and Mary) women were considered too weak to work so they would have to stay at home doing chores all day every day whilst men would go to work. For most of human history women have been regarded as chattel (possessions) and treated as less than men. This is inspite of the fact that women are felt to be the creators of many of the social aspects of civilization (language, society, agriculture etc.) The historical relation with women persists to the present day resulting in the inequality of treatment.
