A person is often diabled as a result of their impairment unless an effort is made to allow them to fit in and feel accepted. It is possible to avoid or reduce the impact of the impairment so the person can have oppurtunities to make choices, develop their potential, become independant and play a full part in society.
You should always keep a balance between being realistic about the limitations that a child's impairment may cause, whilst at the same time having high expectations for their progress and achievements.
Practitioners should have a positve attitude about their capacity to provide for diabled children's requirments, and are ready to learn new skills such as sign language or using the makaton system, the children have greater oppurtunities for making developmental progress.
