Why do people encourage to recycle glass?
First, glass is made from sand subjected to extreme
temperatures. Sand can take thousands or even millions of years to
be created, because they are parts of weathered rock. This means
glass is non-renewable to create, so it is encouraged to recycle
your glass because of the time it takes to create it.
Secondly, fossil fuels are used in the production of glass
itself, emitting thousands of litres of carbon dioxide into the
atmosphere. By recycling, it cuts the amount, because recycling
still does use some fossil fuel. However, compared to the amount
used in the production of glass, it is minute.
