In laymans terms...Because administering heroin via injection only takes about 3-5 seconds to saturate your body. If it's too much then it would hit the user faster then they can pull out the needle.

Do heroin addicts suffer from gastro intestinal issues?

Heroin addicts can suffer from constipation. The reason is heroin affects body functions such as control of digestion, control of heartbeat, control of organ functions, and so on. The small intestines are greatly affected by heroin use and often do not work optimally in heroin addicts and this results in poor movement of feces along the small intestine. The reduced efficiency and function of the small intestines is what can lead to constipation in heroin addicts.

Can you lose weight if you take heroin?

Well, heroin addicts tend to lose track of basic things like eating, so they're often skinny. But becoming addicted to heroin is a bigger health risk than being overweight, so it's not a sensible thing to try.

Can you test for heroin from bloody cotton ball?

heroin is cooked into a liquid form in a spoon and then sucked up through a needle, often using q tips or cotton balls as a 'filter' for the heroin, the blood on the cotton ball could have been some of the blood that got into the needle when the person injected themselves, meaning they most likely sucked up heroin through the cotton ball so i'd guess you could test it for heroin.

Is it true that you can not OD from smoking Heroin or doing it in the muscule?

No. It is possible to OD from injecting heroin into the muscle and through smoking heroin, but it is less likely to happen. Addicts often passout before they can smoke enough and when heroin is injected into th muscle it releases and is broken down in the body more slowely so the amount that enters the bloodstream is not as much or as sudden. The first time I ever touched heroin I smoked it...and ODed.

What will heroin do to your sexual partner?

If it is your usage of heroin, it will do nothing to your partner. At least not by itself. However, heroin usage often involves other risky behavior such as needle sharing and any diseases you have obtained through its use may be transmitted to your partner. They also may not like the way you behave while on drugs.

Why did katharine hepburn wear turtlenecks?

She had a beautiful and long neck. Turtlenecks were made for such things as they made her look more beautiful and so gracious. Scarves and turtlenecks are worn in all forms of weather including very hot, often by those that are heroin addicts that inject straight into the neck. Very dangerous way of injecting heroin, but then these heroin users have to cover their necks. Meth addicts do it too. But Hepburn wore turtlenecks because she had a beautiful neck, and she knew how to make herself look great! If Ralph Lauren only had her as a model for his turtleneck sweaters! yes.

What forms does heroin come in?

Usually a powder containing heroin (diacetylmorphine) hydrochloride and some kind of filler. This can be snorted or injected, sometimes it is heated on foil to create vapors to inhale, rarely it is eaten. Other forms containing heroin hydrochloride are available. There are many differently colors, consistencies, and potencies of powder heroin. Black tar or tar heroin is a less refined form of heroin hydrochloride that is sticky like opium. Sometimes heroin base is found which is often smoked on foil but can be injected if combined with acid. A new form targeted at children is cheese which is a powder with a small amount of heroin mixed with over the counter pills, often cold remedies.

What is the best kind of heroin?

In terms of recreational use, there is no best kind of heroin. Obviously the purest stuff would be more suitable than adulterated heroin. "Black tar" heroin uses a less precise manufacturing method than pharmaceutical grade diacetyl morphine, and should be the least preferred. But addicts use that form of it because it is cheapest and the easiest to obtain.

How are teens at risk from heroin?

They have the same risks from heroin as adults. Heroin is addictive, and it is often injected in a very impure form. That is why so many call heroin "junk" in slang, and why so many diseases are spread from injecting heroin. Plus heroin itself is quite hard on the body.

What do you call a hypodermic needle?

What is the average life span of a heroin addict?

It depends on how often they use and what other drugs (or alcohol) they may be using with one particular drug. What most people don't realize is that the majority of long-term, hard-core drug addicts are dying in their 40s and 50s. The latest studies show that the life expectancy of a drug addict is 15 to 20 years after they start being a drug addict. So what we see is a replenishment of the population, a new crop of addicts. There are no 90-year-old heroin addicts. Most of those we were recording 20 years ago have died. The numbers are relatively stable, but they're constantly being replenished. The average U.S. statistics say one in 100 heroin addicts will have a fatal overdose per year, then there was times like the Chicago fentanyl scare when deaths jumped 5x. this isn't considering the hep c, HIV, AIDS, murders, or accidents that can happen while using. Gangrene/necrosis from bad shots. It depends upon the circumstances in which they take it. Heroin is diacetyl morphine. It is just another form of ordinary hospital morphine which is used routinely. The only difference between the two is that heroin is three times stronger by weight. One grain of heroin equals three grains of morphine. They are both converted to the same form of morphine within the body. Medically, they are entirely equivalent and there is no justification for heroin being illegal while morphine is used routinely. There are literally millions of pain patients in the US who use morphine on a daily basis. It has no negative effect on their lives, as long as it is used in moderation. Neither does heroin need to have a bad effect on the lifespan of addicts -- provided they take it under clean and safe circumstances. In fact, there have been numerous famous addicts who have lived long, healthy, and successful lives while addicted to heroin. One example is Dr. William Stewart Halsted, who is known as the "father of modern surgery". He invented most of the basic techniques of modern surgery while he was an addict. Another famous heroin addict was Senator Joseph McCarthy, of anti-communist fame. See Some Eminent Narcotics Addicts - http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/Library/studies/cu/cu5.HTML Prior to 1914, heroin was entirely legal. Heroin, morphine, and cocaine were included in common patent medicines and freely available to anyone who wanted to purchase them, including children. Prior to 1906 there were no requirements to even list the contents on the label so people didn't even know what they were taking. Even under those conditions, we did not have most of the health and crime problems associated with heroin that we see today. Addicts did not commit crimes to support their habit, and they generally did not suffer major ill health effects from their addiction. The most typical addict at the time was a rural-living white female -- the farm mother. The huge problems with disease, infection, and impure products did not arise until opiates were outlawed in 1914. Most of the health problems associated with heroin in the modern world are the result of it being illegal. For an excellent history and discussion of the subject, see The Consumers Union Report on Licit and Illicit Drugs at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/library/studies/cu/cumenu.htm

Why does heroin affect you faster when injecting?

Heroin effects you faster when injecting because as soon as the heroin hits your bloodstream, it rushes throughout your entire body and vessels. This is often called a heroin "rush" and is usually why people repeatedly inject the drug.
