Most people are shy believe it or not. Some just lack more confidence, but in the beginning it's difficult for most of us (especially when young) to get that communication going with peers. Don't feel you are abnormal because you aren't! Make a point of LISTENING to what other groups of your peers are talking about. I have no doubt much is on computers, IPODS, "American Idol", the latest movies, etc. Once you know the subjects they are interested in then realize you have a virtual library at your finger tips ... the internet! Look things up (especially things the others may not know) and when talking just drop the new piece of news you have found out on the Internet. A wise person usually listens more than talks, so it's OK to just stand there and listen or smile once in awhile. Not all people want to say a lot and it has nothing to do with shyness. I like a person to speak when they really have something to say or, if they like to joke around. Good luck!
