Depending on the type and composition of the breath freshener, it would possibly irritate the eyes and conjunctiva. If it appeared to irritate, or it hurt, I'd flush my eyes with water or saline.
All the breath fresheners I know of are not particularly dangerous in this way.
1. The conjunctiva is part of the eye. Listing them separately is redundant and pretentious.
2. More importantly, if you got breath freshener in your eyes, it would probably hurt, since anything in the freshner other than water with the same acidity and same concentration of salts as is in the eye will cause the pain receptors in your eye that you just made a mistake.
3. Never wait for saline or anything but tap water if you get something in your eyes that hurts like hell. Rather, immediately go to a sink or other source of water and flush your eyes. Is tap water perfect? No, but if you something in your eyes is causing pain, it would be nuts not to flush it with water right away if it hurts, because if it hurts, it could also be damaging your eyes.
There are many things that could happen to the animals if the air they breath were sprayed with pesticide. One is that they could get sick or die.

By cleaning it and using a breath freshener....I would recommend using an "Oral-B pro-health cross action 7" toothbrush...It really is the best kind out there.
If you held your breath, the concentration of oxygen in your lungs would decrease. The concentration of carbon dioxide would increase in your lungs.
