The use of urine testing in routine checkups is questionable. Most physicians will say the check for overt abnormalities of specific gravity, the presence of sugar, protein, bilirubin or for signs of infection including white blood cells, red blood cells, nitrites or leukocyte esterase. In women's health practices, it might be used to check for pregnancy if either suspected or not. However, it is only a spot check if done correctly, and will not eliminate disorders of the above without strict adherence to technique, collection and testing criteria.
