First of all, arterial and venous blood flows are different. Arteries spurt from the blood pressure used to propel the blood away from the heart, but veins let the blood flow. If you know the pressure points (behind the elbows, carotids at the neck, near the underarms, on the wrist, and on the inside of knees), then press between the wound and the pressure point before that point in the blood's journey through the blood vessels. I think that you will end up having to have surgery or possibly even death. Honestly, I think you need to think it through if you are willing to cut or not. I used to, and t does'nt even help. If you are SURE you want to'at least start off with a tack and scratch yourself. You REALLY dont want to hit a vein because skin alone can cause you to have stitches. or even death.

Apply direct pressure with a clean cloth to the wound to stop the bleeding. For severe bleeding, and espeically for an arterial bleed, transport to hospital -- it'll likely need sutures.

apply pressure to stop the bleeding. If it has been punctured by a splinter, etc., do NOT remove unless you are sure that you have not penetrated an artery
