The Abdominal cavity. The pancreas is both an Exocrine and Endocrine gland.

As an exocrine gland it produces and secretes pancreatic juice, which digests all the components of food in the small intestine. As an endocrine gland, the pancreas secretes the hormones insulin and glucagon into the bloodstream. Completes the job of breaking down protein, carbohydrates, and fats using digestive juices of pancreas combined with juices from the intestines.

Secretes hormones that affect the level of sugar in the blood.

Produces chemicals that neutralize stomach acids that pass from the stomach into the small intestine by using substances in pancreatic juice.

Contains Islets of Langerhans, which are tiny groups of specialized cells that are scattered throughout the organ.

  • These cells secrete:
    • Glucagon---raises the level of glucose (sugar) in the blood
    • Insulin---stimulates cells to use glucose
    • Somatostatin---may regulate the secretion of glucagons and insulin.

This organ belongs to the digestive system and preform the above functions which is necessary for digestion to be completed.

What are the two ways of communicating with subsystem. Explain?

There are two ways of communicating with a subsystem, either by sending stimuli to the subsystem itself to be re-directed to the proper recipient inside the subsystem, or by sending stimuli directly to the recipient inside the subsystem. In the first case, an association is defined with the subsystem itself to enable stimuli sending.A subsystem can have generalizations to other subsystems, i.e., the public and protected elements in the contents of a subsystem as well as operations and receptions are also available to its heirs.A subsystem may offer a set of interfaces, i.e., for each operation defined in an interface, the subsystem offering the interface must have a matching operation, either as a feature of the subsystem itself or of a specification element.

to what body system does the pancreas more properly belong?

the endocrine system is the answer. The pancreas has dual roles - it is an organ of the digestive system and of the endocrine system. The exocrine pancreas produces enzymes that help to digest food, particularly protein. The endocrine pancreas makes the hormone insulin, which helps to control blood sugar levels.
