How can a sports massage post care advice be programmed to develop the components of fitness?

Athletes in general are goal oriented, so any program to regain their ability to compete will be important for them. Most often, when an athlete gets an injury, especially if it is a competitive or professional athlete, this would involve a medical diagnosis and/or intervention. Then, as part of their rehab, or what is referred to as remedial therapy, they will likely get physical therapy which has its main focus of strengthening muscles. The role of a massage therapist in this context, as long as they are part of an informed health care team, is to help the muscles balance themselves out in order to regain better function.

What is the role of a therapist during a massage session?

The role of a massage therapist is to be a facilitator of healing. A massage session may have different focuses of intent, but the one single element that is consistent in all massage therapy sessions is that there is an element of relaxation, because relaxation triggers the parasympathetic 'relaxation' response where the body can initiate and be promoted to turn on the mechanisms that will bring about healing of the body - and the mind.
