If the burn is very recent, you can immerse the burn in cool running water for 10-15 minutes in order to lower the temperature and stop the burning process. Besides water, you don't put anything on a burn except a clean, dry dressing -- when performing first aid, you can also use clingfilm applied loosely in case the burn swells. This is because ointments can attract dirt, dust, and microorganisms, and anything but a clean, dry dressing may become stuck to the burne, thus increasing the chance of additional damage to the burned tissue. You should go to hospital, If the burn is larger than your hand, If any part of the burn looks black and charred or you have a burn on your face hands feet or genitals.

Natural remedies:For minor burns, herbs such as calendula, comfrey root, and goldenseal can be used.
  • Calendula is anti-inflammatory and antibacterial. Calendula gel can be applied several times a day.
  • Comfrey root promotes the growth of new cells. A herb poultice can be made.
  • Goldenseal is a topical antibiotic and can be applied several times a day (gel form).

However, it is best to consult an herbalist before using herbs, especially if this is not a minor burn.

Answer 2:For minor burns you can use a gel like substance such as Aloe Vera. If the burn is severe or a minor burn looks like it is becoming infected, you will need to get it looked at by a doctor either through a walk in clinic, or through your local emergecy dept.

One thing you must never do is burst any blisters that form. If you do, you open an immediate walk-in centre for germs. The body will reduce them in time.

A skin cream (non greasy) containing aloe, or it it is available, juice from the aloe plant itself.

If the burn is just red (3rd degree), cover it with an adhesive bandage or gauze to protect it. If a blister forms (2nd degree), do not break it. Keep it covered, and apply antibiotic salve if it breaks, treating it like any other minor wound.

Im sure its too late now but immediately after the burn happens run cold water over the burned area for a good 2 minutes. Then hold an ice pack to the burn for 20 minutes if you can. Normally for me its too unbearably cold so I put the ice pack on and off every 5 minutes or so for half an hour.

Within the first 20 minutes put ice on a burn. It really hurts, but it does stop the pain and will keep it from blistering/scaring.
