In law... A voluntary relationship is where someone assumes care of another even though they are not legally obliged to do so. However once this duty is assumed they are legally liable. As in the case of Stone and Dobinson, they assumed responsibility by allowing her to stay with them. This duty can rarely be broken, but none the less can be, as seen in the case of Airedale trust vs bland where the duty was relieved by a court order.
