β 15y agoI'm a paramedic, the best way to lessen a bump is to hold a cold cloth/compress on it for as long as the child will let you. watch for drowsiness and vomiting signs of a concussion. The quicker you put a cold compress on the bump, the better. As a childcare provider, I find the quickest thing is to grab a bag of frozen peas or the like from the freezer, wrap in a small towel and apply to bump as long as possible. Anyone with kids should carry a first aid "quick ice pac". It's a poly-plastic bag that when shaken, the crystals inside mix and create an instant ice pack. Never apply directly to skin; wrap in a towel, or paper towels, then apply to the little ones Boo Boo!

β 15y agoGenerally, doctors will want to assess whether the injured person lost consciousness or suffered any change in their mental status (the way they think or act). If they did, the doctor may want to order and review a CT scan of the head, to check for any bleeding or fractures. If not, the treatment is generally pretty simple. Ice will generally take care of much of the swelling and pain. Low-dose medications like acetaminophen or ibuprofen will also likely be helpful. The swelling and pain should resolve within 1 to 7 days.
In extremely young or elderly patients, the doctor will likely order a CT of the head just to be sure that no intracranial (inside the skull) problem is present.

β 16y agoYou should first make an X ray and Scan to see what is at back and main reason for the "bump". After knowing that, a pediatric surgeon can tell you the best options.

Any serious bump on the head in a young child should be seen by a doctor. There could otherwise be mental problems in the years ahead.
Swelling at the temple on one side could be due to various reasons such as a bump or injury, an infection, inflammation, or a problem with the blood vessels in that area. It is recommended to see a doctor to determine the underlying cause and proper treatment plan.
I encountered such a case as a 2 year old infant. I fell down a flight of stairs and was admitted to the hospital when my mom found me with a huge bump slightly above my forehead. It wasn't an issue at all. Just a normal reaction to the fall. However, you may want to go to the clinic to get your head scanned just to make sure that it is no blodclot.
