Standards: These consist of specific low level mandatory controls to ensure and control consistency.

Guidelines: These consist of recommended, non-mandatory controls that assist the standard when no mandatory control has been specified. These can be considered Best-Practice.

- My Question to my Prof. was: Are there "Standards" in the filed of web

design?

- The Answer was:

For the most part there are no legal ("de jure") standards, just some

practical ("de facto") standard. In many areas, especially in regard to

design, there are no standards at all, just guidelines.

in other words:

* Standards: Spicific mandatory statements.

* Guidelines: Recommendations/Best practices.
