By poison ivy lotion I take it you mean a calamine lotion like caladryl. It contains carbolic acid, zinc oxide (ZnO) , and ferric oxide (Fe2O3), none of which is a pure element.
caladryl
I am currently using Caladryl Clear that expired 01/2004 on a rash of poison ivy. It seems to be working just fine.
lotion is applied without rubbing but liniment with rubbing lotion is an aqeuous external liquid but liniment is non aqeuous lotion is a suspension but liniment is an emulsion
Calamine solution contains zinc carbonate and ant's sting contains Formic acid. The reaction between the acid and the base neutralises the effect of the sting.
from posion im not sure if they can die from caladryl clear lotion
calamine lotion has a base named zinc carbonate
Calamine, lanolin and aloe vera are ok.
Ferric oxide gives calamine its characteristic pink color.
I don't know if there is a white Calamine lotion, but there is a clear calamine lotion. It is super clear and once you put it on it just looks a little shiny, kind of like clear nail polish. The only downside is that it doesn't work as well as the pink calamine does.
Plenty of major retailers and pharmacies carry the product in stores. Wal-Mart sells a type of lacto calamine called Humco: Skin Protectant Calamine Lotion.
