Permethrin 5% cream applied all over from the neck down, leave on overnight, shower in the morning. Repeat in 1 week.

If there are no contraindications to oral treatment, you can take ivermectin 0.2mg/kg once.

Scabbies, which is accurately known as Scabies, is a type of skin infection usually caused by mites. First, an individual will need to thoroughly clean all clothing and bedding items. Steam cleaning the sofa or couch is also recommended. The best course of action to cure scabies from an individual is to visit the doctor. The doctor usually prescribes a medication which contains permethrin to get rid of the mites and their eggs.

Scabies is caused by an mite burrowing under the skin. It is VERY infectious. Scabies mites are called Sarcoptes scabiei.

You need to visit a qualified medical practitioner if you think you have Scabies. Over the counter or home medicines are NOT STRONG ENOUGH to treat the condition. The two most widely used treatments for scabies are Permethrin 5% cream and Malathion 0.5% lotion. (You keep the lotion/cream on for 24 hours without washing it off). The cream/lotion needs to be applied all over - you may need a third party help to reach some places where you can not apply the cream/lotion yourself - you must not miss a bit!. You need to treat ALL members of the household at the same time, even if you think they are not infected. To be sure a second treatment can be applied after 2 weeks.

After the mites are killed the itch and rash they caused (an allergic reaction to their feacies) may take up to 2-6 week to die down - The treatment works but you don't think it has because the itch remains - have faith!.

When you apply treatment, you also need to machine wash (hot 50 degrees C) all clothing and bedding. Anything that can not be washed (eg cushions etc) should be placed in a sealed bag or a different room for a week (during which time the mites will die).
