Most of the disadvantages of being in a relationship result from getting into one that can't work -- being more interested in "being married" for example, than in who you're married to.

The advantages include simple things like shared labor, shared income, cheaper costs of living.

But the important thing that makes relationships work is trust. Most humans just aren't meant to meet the challenges of life solo. We need someone we can share our fears and hopes with, someone who will call us to account when we mess up, give us courage when we feel like giving up, make soup when we've got a cold, challenge our preconceptions. Most important, we need someone we can do those same things for.

Many of us in relationships wind up with a kid or two. It's almost impossible to do a good job as a parent going it alone. This isn't because you necessarily don't know how; it's because none of us can be everywhere at once.

Other disadvantages: your time isn't your own; you usually wind up in a relationship with your partner's family, as well; and you have to compromise. A lot! Relationships don't maintain themselves: they take a lot of effort. How much of a disadvantage this is depends on you.
