The role of semen is to carry sperm that is ejaculated by the male into the the reproductive system of the female. at the time of release semen which is mixed with sperm is a reasonably viscous consistency within a short period of time it loses a lot of its viscosity making it easier for sperm to travel further into the reproductive system and attempt fertilization of the females ovum.
