I assume you spelled it wrong cause you are not looking at the bottle. omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor in a class with other PPI's like nexium, aciphex, protonix and prevacid. it prevents excessive amounts of stoamch acid from being creating... thus relieving heartburn. it is generic... its branded name is prilosec.
