Eplerenone is an aldosterone antagonist and a potassium sparing diuretic. It is used for patients with heart failure that have sign or symptoms of edema or pulmonary congestion signified by rales in the lungs and the other use is to get rid of excessive water in the body to reduce blood pressure. It is preferred over spironolactone as it cause less gynecomastia, which is enlarged breasts in men.
