Quasi-synthetic narcotics are those which are derived from naturally occurring narcotic substances but are changed in the laboratory to have a more specific effect or to be more powerful.

eg Heroin from Morphine.

These are distinct from narcotics synthesised in the laboratory to produce a specific chemical effect in the body and not derived from a natural narcotic (such as Methadone)
