If you are talking about over the counter medications sold as "night time" formulas, most of them contain the words "night time" because they include a sleep aid as part of the formula. If you are staying home sick, no harm will come to you from taking them in the morning, but if you are going to be up and about, you will be sleepy and "buzzy" until it wears off - which may be as much as six to eight hours. If you need to be alert at work, and especially if you will be driving, do not take a "night time" formula in the morning.

Probably stay awake. Many daytime formulas contain pseupoephedrine which is a stimulant. Nightime formulas usually contain a mild sedative to help you sleep.
