Although ingesting your own mucus does not sound like the brightest of ideas, surprisingly, all the bacteria that comes along with doing so actually helps improve your immune system. There are no terribly horrid side effects.

You shouldn't because it serves as a trap for germs and bacteria and if you eat it, you are ingesting the very things your body was trying to keep out and it can get you very sick.
