cold numbens muscle and decreases swelling. They say to use cold on new injuries and heat on old injuries. also coldness decreases the speed of chemical reactions, but i am unsure weather to use cold for bee stings and such...

The muscles are actually slowed down in colder temperatures. You can get cramps and pains if you are exposed to the cold for long periods of time.
