The Schedule –H ( of Drugs and Cosmetics Act and Rules) contains a list of drugs commonly called prescription dugs. These drugs are required to be sold on the prescription of a registered medical practitioner only. This legal requirement is made to prevent self medication. Medicines containing such drugs are labeled with a symbol Rx and if drugs fall under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act (addiction forming substances) with a symbol NRx on the left hand corner. They are also labeled with a warning. To be sold on the prescription of a registered medical practitioner only. The warning is meant for retailer in pharmacy/medical store.
