Love doesn't contradict death. In Romeo and Juliet, for example, death actually compliments their love and amplifies its intensity. If they had lived in the story, or their families had not been in a mortal feud, then their romance would have been unremarkable. However, they loved one another so deeply they'd rather die than be apart. There's no contradiction there.
