Filmtab refers to a medication that is coated in a film coating, usually used in medications that are "time released" and need to disolve in slowly over a period of time. This is done so the medication is released into your system over a longer period of time. For example, the most common time released medications are pain medications, if you took a time released or long acting pain medication the drug would be released into your system at say every hour, but every hour you would be getting the prescribed dosage. Let's say you are taking long acting Morphine 30mg, every hour 30mg of Morphibe will be released into your system. Most long acting medications are supposed to last 12 hours but that is not always the case which is why you may see a doctor prescribe the patient to take the medication every 6-8 hours. Long acting medications are different from short acting in the manner that if you were to take a short acting 15mg Morphine tablet the entire 15mg would be immediately dissolved & released into your system. I know it's long winded but I hope this adequately explains the question.
