Our body is a biological mass and in order to survive it needs proper elements to maintain it in working order. minimum quantity of various things are needed to keep the body alive for which we have to consume food from which our body can extract the required elements to keep it going. among the elements nutrients are very important. every cells of our body needs nutrients to survive. devoid of nutrients the cells begins to lose its potentials and starts to die. in eastern philosophy it is said that everything is made up of four elements - water, fire, earth and air. these, however, are not to be taken literally; that is to say these elements represents differently in different things. again if we take the human as example we can say that in a human being fire is the heat in our body, the water is represented by the flowing blood, earth is the bones in our body and air is what we breathe in. in this connection i would like to add that 'farting' for human is also an air element and is necessary.

therefore we should eat a balanced diet containing most of the nutrients and water containing food. malnutrition leads to different parts of our body dying off at different levels when the body starts losing its different faculty. the effect will depend on the type of malnutrition that is affecting the body. with malnutrition the body just do not respond to the commands the mind wants to transmit. therefore how malnutrition will affect the body will generally depend on the type of nutrition the body is lacking.

Without the correct amounts of vitamins, minerals, and protein, your body will slowly begin to shut down. Our bodies will not continue to "GO" on nothing. If you are sitting at home eating chips and drinking soda pop, then you might get fat, water, and sugar but that wouldn't be enough for any one person to live off for more than a decade. The amounts of junk food needed to sustain your health would have to be in such large amounts, that you would most likely grow to be morbidly obese, and therefore, you would die of malnutrition and even more complications, such as diabetes, heart failure, and more.

If there is presence of malnutrition, then there is depletion of important nutrients that the body need to function fully. As a result, the body could become less efficient in doing usual tasks such as running, walking, working. There will be less healthy cells in the body that may results to diseases such as Anemia and severe muscle wasting and Immune system might be compromised leading to infections that the body cannot fight.

How does malnutrition affect the body?

Nutritional disorders can affect any system in the body and the senses of sight, taste, and smell. Malnutrition begins with changes in nutrient levels in blood and tissues. Alterations in enzyme levels, tissue abnormalities, and organ malfunction may be followed by illness and death.

Unintentionally losing 10 pounds or more may be a sign of malnutrition. People who are malnourished may be skinny or bloated. Their skin is pale, thick, dry, and bruises easily. Rashes and changes in pigmentation are common.

Hair is thin, tightly curled, and pulls out easily. Joints ache and bones are soft and tender. The gums bleed. The tongue may be swollen or shriveled and cracked. Visual disturbances include night blindness and increased sensitivity to light and glare.

Other symptoms of malnutrition include:

  • Anemia
  • Diarrhea
  • Disorientation
  • Goiter (enlarged thyroid gland)
  • Loss of reflexes and lack of coordination
  • Muscle twitches
  • Scaling and cracking of the lips and mouth. Malnourished children may be short for their age, thin, listless, and have weakened immune systems.
