Needle protectors are usually bright coloured (orange, green or pink). Made of plastic - they look like a small cylinder - closed at one end, designed to protect the needle-tip from damage (and stop it being accidentally stuck into a person !).
almost never, according to OSHA all needles should be safety capped. But in common practice most people cap the needles before they throw them away. (biohazard) there things called needle cappers that look like little rubber pyramids with holes in the top for needle caps, that way you're not holding the cap when u recap the needle.
holding the cap in one hand and inserting the needle in to the cap with the other hand is not recommended
To dispose of a needle it is important to slide the cap back over the needle and put the needle recycle bin. The bin is locked with a small opening so people cannot reuse the needle. To activate the needle sticks remove the cap from the needle.
