A PA is actually a Physician Assistant, not a Doctor. Normally it will say PA-C after his/her name, however (this means Physician Assistant Certified because all PAs must take a national exam every 6 years to keep their professional license). PAs work in close collaboration with a supervising physician, but normally see patients on their on and are able to prescribe medications in almost all states. Hope this answers your question but if not just Google "Physician Assistant" to find out more details. They are somewhat similar to Nurse Practioners but are trained using the medical model that Physicians use instead of coming from a nursing model approach.

what does in mean in the medical field when dc pa is after a name
<><><>
It MAY refer to Dementia Care Professionals of America- an association of health care providers that deal with ailments such as Alzheimer's.
When a doctor signs his name, and after M.D. (Medical Doctor) he makes the notation P.A.(Professional Association), that means that he alone, or with a group of doctors, set up a corporation. It is better business (tax advantages and liability protection) to form a corporation.
Example:
Thomas E. Smith, M.D.,P.A. filed as a Professional Association on Monday, May 24, 2004 in the state of Texas and is currently active. The company's line of business includes Medical Doctor's Office.
