With my dental...delta dental...it meant that even though I have dual coverage and have been paying for both dental plans...it was a waste of money because they would not pay anything over what my primary insurance would pay. That they would not pick up the difference (my copay) for my dental work. They would only pay up to the amount my primary would have paid.

Non-Duplication of Benefits: Also known as a "carve out plan" is a plan designed to provide a certain level of cost sharing by the member. When this plan is secondary to another plan, it only pays the difference between the plan's normal benefit (what would have been paid if the plan was the primary payer) and any amount paid by the Primary plan. The plan does not usually reimburse up to 100% of the total charge. Patient is responsible for any remaining balance, including co-pay, any coinsurance of deductibles.
