Proper aftercare is important after liposuction surgery. Heart problems and infections can result from liposuction. Also, burns, embolisms, cardiac arrhythmia, edema, and nerve compression as well as the healing of the puncture wounds are additional risks.

Some of the risks associated with laser fat removal, or laser liposuction (lipoplasty) are; asymmetrical results due to uneven or irregular fat removal; bleeding and infection, as associated with any invasive surgery; thermal damage, from the laser burning the skin; and scarring in the area of the incision.
