There are several factors that influence the dietary choices of individuals:

  • The person's relationship to food (meaning: does he/she use it purely to be able to sustain his/her physical health or does he/she use comfort foods)
  • How the individual was brought up (what the mother/father gave the child when he/she was growing up and the food that he/she was raised on.
  • Some say that genetics plays a role. If a person has a condition that would make him/her chooses certain food over others (like Diabetes) in the interest of health.
  • The lifestyle a person has also affects his/her choice. If a person has a fast-paced lifestyle, then he/she may mainly eat junk food/fast food.
