AFFECTIVE FUNCTION

Main focus for the individual family unit in view of the formation and its continuation. The family will succeed or fail based on if the family's needs that are provided.

Assessment: While performing the home visits, family member closeness would be assessed to monitor how affectionate and understanding they are to one another.

SOCIAL PLACEMENT FUNCTION SOCIALIZATION

Universal essentials for the family to cope and survive in today's society. Socialization educates children how to take on adult roles as to how to become a good husband/dad or a good wife/mom.

Assessment: Evaluate children above the age of 10 years old to view their thought on what the situations of a husband/dad or wife/mom demand and what the mental picture is of them. Also, ask them how they view themselves as a child growing up into adolescent and what they think these responsibilities hold for them when they get their first job, become a grandparent etc. This type of evaluation will help children learn the culture expectations of socialization and social placement.

HEALTH CARE FUNCTION

Most relevant to the family nurse because it is focused on the individual family member's health status.

Assessment: Screen for proper dieting, and coping skills; evaluate for risk of high blood pressure, obesity, and mental illnesses.

REPRODUCTIVE FUNCTION

Basic function of the family to maintain the cycle of life span continuation through marriage, sexual behavior and reproduction. In today's society, families are smaller and couples are delaying the child education experiences until their careers are established and stabilized.

Assessment: Discuss views of raising children with the nuclear dyad couples and single adults living alone regarding their ideas, plans, and doubts about having children.

ECONOMIC FUNCTION

Adequate financial resources are a main concern for everyone. Today's economy is erratic and with the pathetic dollar; clothes, food, shelter, gasoline, and sufficient health care are not becoming a necessity however a luxury.

Assessment: Evaluate nutritional status, educational background, employment status, and financial situation.
