  2. Parietal lobe---plays important roles in integrating sensory information from various senses, and in the manipulation of objects; portions of the parietal lobe are involved withvisuospatial processing
  3. Occipital lobe---sense of sight; lesions can produce hallucinations
  4. left and right Temporal lobe's---senses of smell and sound, as well as processing of complex

The main parts of the brain are the frontal lobe, temporal lobe, occipital lobe, parietal lobe, hypothalamus, cerebrum, brain stem ,and cerebellum. In addition, the brain contains the corpus callosum, pituitary gland, hypothalamus, and thalamus. The medulla oblongata and pons are parts of the brain stem.

To be more specific, we can classify the parts of brain as follows:

1) Prosencephalon (forebrain)

  • Telencephalon = cerebral hemisphere + basal ganglia
  • Diencephalon = thalamus + hypothalamus + subthalamus + epithalamus

2) Mesencephalon (midbrain)

3) Rhombencephalon (hindbrain)

  • metencephalon = pons + cerebellum
  • myelencephalon = medulla oblongata

In the Fore brain we have the

1) Olfactory Lobes ( receive information about smell)

2) Thalamus (interprets and relays sensory information)

3) Hypothalamus ( Controls Autonomic nervous system, internal organs, thirst)

4) Cerebrum (responsible for relaying information between your right and left hemispheres. ) It is composed of 4 lobes:

a. Frontal Lobe (personality,intellectual activities)

b. temporal lobe (interprets sound and smell)

c. Parietal lobe (interprets touch, temperature, taste, and pain)

d. Occipital lobe ( interprets visual information)

The Mid- brain acts as a relay center between ear and eye reflexes.

The Hind-brain ( located on top of spinal cord) is composed of

1) Cerebellum (balance,limb movement)

2) Pons (connects the cerebellum to mid brain and medulla)

3) Medulla Oblongata ( regulates heart rate and breathing rate) there arelots of different names!!! what part of the brain do you want to know?
