It is being researched for psychotherapy with PTSD clients (see www.maps.org). It is used by many individuals in order to increase feelings of openness and connectedness with others. Other people enjoy the body buzz (touching / being touched feels really good, breathing feels good, etc). Some people take it while at a club/rave/party for its stimulant properties as well as its ability to increase feelings of connectedness with others.

Ecstasy isn't used medically. It has however been used recreationally for medical intention. This is a very taboo thing, however it does help with some people treat their trauma and PTSD-related damage.
