When someon has trasposition of the great vessels they can expect coronary Heart disease, heart valve problems, and arrhythmias (too fast, too slow, or irregular heart beat)
Transposition Of The Great Vessels
symptomatic include ventricular septal defect (VSD), transposition of the great vessels (TGV), tetralogy of Fallot, coarctation of the aorta, and hypoplastic left heart syndrome.
They are called 'Normal People' with 'dextrocardiac' position (if only the heart is on the right side of the thoracic cavity). Often times, their major blood vessels may be positioned in relation to the dextrocardia, then the condition is also termed with TGV (transposition of great vessels).
Transposition of the great arteries is a birth defect causing a fatal condition in which there is a reversal, or switch, in the truncal connections of the two main (great) blood vessels to the heart, the aorta and pulmonary artery.
Because there is no identifiable cause, there is no way to prevent this condition.
Balloon atrial septostomy is the standard procedure for correcting transposition of the great arteries;
Left untreated, this disease is fatal within the first weeks of life.
