It is probably just a normal reaction to an infection of the throat, usually viral and self limited. However, if it is red and warm to touch or feels like there is fluid in it or if it is getting large enough to affect breathing and swallowing or just won't go down after a week or two then you should see your doctor.

Having neck in an un-natural position for an extended period such as when reading, on computer, craning of the neck. Can also be caused by stress on the neck/shoulders from carrying heavy objects, heavy bag hanging off the shoulder or from bad posture.

The glands in your neck can be swollen for a number of reasons. The common cold, flu virus or strep throat can all cause swelling of the glands.
