Pain or aching is an indication of the breakdown in the muscle that needed to happen to cause it to increase in size. It is also an indication of when it is time to stop before damage beyond the rebuilding ability of a 2 or 3 days rest is achieveable so it is better to stop and move on to another muscle group.
